Renowned historian Elizabeth Lawrence was found in her car, where she was bitten by a cobra. Her colleague and friend, Dr. Evan Wilding, does not believe she committed suicide. From the crime scene and the manner of death, he can read more than is apparent at first glance. Together with Addii Bisset, a detective from the homicide department, he tries to find the murderer and the true reason for Elizabeth's death.

Evan is approached by Elizabeth's old friend, who later turns out to be a Mossad agent, claiming that she was close to obtaining an invaluable artifact. This artifact seems to be sought after by several other scientists, an art dealer, a bankrupt heir to a significant collection, the founder of a foundation that finances the creation of a museum dedicated to Moses, a treasure hunter, a mysterious Jordanian diplomat, and possibly someone else.

Did Elizabeth remain true to her principles until her death, or did she succumb to temptation and allow herself to be bought in order to finance her institute?

The case complicates with another death, where the murder weapon again carries a certain message. What are the motives of the murderer? Who will be the next victim? Will Evan clear his friend’s name and find the rare artifact? Or will he lose the race against time and the murderer?
