Dear God, I was such a good girl. Maybe give me a sign so I know what's happening to me. ***** This is how, at the beginning of the last century in the American South, "fourteen-year-old" black girl Celie tries to connect through letters with someone who, it seems, is responsible for her suffering in a world seemingly created only for men, and moreover, white men. Although she doesn't encounter them much during segregation, her violent father and later husband, whom she is married off to while still very young, are more than enough. ***** With her letters – some of which she addresses to her sister, who has disappeared somewhere in the world – Celie manages until the very end of the novel, even though no answers or signs come from God and her husband confiscates the letters from her sister. However, thanks to these unreciprocated letters and even more so because of two amazing women who navigate the pitfalls of the "male world" much better, the main character gradually lifts her head and rises from the dust. And by the end of the "novel in letters," she even realizes to whom or what she has been writing all those years.
