Description
Hazel Sinnett is left alone. She is not sure if the events of the previous year – Beecham's immortality, the vial with the solution that averts death, the possibility of replacing body parts – were just a figment of her imagination. She doesn't even know if Jack is still alive or if he was actually executed. So she continues to heal the impoverished, help people, and try to maintain Hawthornden Castle. When she saves a woman after a miscarriage, it turns against her, and it seems she will spend the rest of her life in prison. Then, unexpectedly, the king's secretary appears with a request for her to become the personal physician to Princess Charlotte, the sick daughter of King George. Hazel is soon drawn into court life, where everyone has something to hide. Besides the princess and one of her ladies-in-waiting, she also becomes close to a group of people who call themselves the Companions of Death. Hazel's medical expertise is very useful to them. Meanwhile, Jack Currer, under another name, is coming to terms with immortality...
