Description
Journalist Friedrich Birkenwald has lost his job, and while he is dealing with existential problems, a man appears who wants to hire him as a private detective. That man is none other than Count Evžen Černín, who would like to find out under what circumstances his ward, Ludvika Leonhardi, died at the Saint Gabriel Monastery in Smíchov. ***** The story takes place in 1917, during the fighting on the front lines of World War I, but at the same time, a hidden battle is underway, determining the future shape of the world. ***** Friedrich gradually discovers that he has found himself among the warring factions within the monarchy, where in a war they call cultural, the church, Masonic lodges, the highest political elites, and the celebrities of the cultural life of the time are all fighting. ***** The investigation, which seemed easy at the beginning, gradually becomes complicated and leads Friedrich to secret occult societies, and he becomes increasingly entangled in a web of black magic, where his life will be at stake.
