The cabin was always a special place for Isherwood Williams, a refuge from the demands of society. One day, however, he was bitten by a rattlesnake during a hike, and the solitude he longed for took on a terrifying significance. He was sick for several days and delirious. At one point, he woke up to find two strangers staring at him from the cabin door. Surprisingly, they did not offer help but fled in fear. Shortly after, Ish began to cough. He suffered from chills and fever, and a rash resembling measles appeared on his skin. He was one of the few who survived this strange illness, but he did not know that yet. When he finally felt healthy, he headed home – and almost immediately noticed that something was different. It was ominous. Cars were not passing him on the road, the nearby gas station looked deserted, and he saw a corpse at the roadside near a small town. Without a radio or phone, Ish had no idea about the sudden demise of humanity. He escaped death, but he could not escape disaster – and now he realized he was curious about how long it would take for all traces of civilization to vanish from the earth.
