In a spring that is otherwise nothing special, something happens that paralyzes the entire world – overnight, a dark box appears at the door of every person on Earth over the age of 22. The recipient's name is engraved on the lid along with the inscription: Inside is the measure of your life. ***** Those who dared to look inside discovered a string. And each string has a different, specific length. ***** Chaos and panic erupt worldwide; no one knows what it means, and people desperately try to find an explanation. Research does not linger, and soon a so-called home calculator is created, where you can enter the length of your string and find out how many years of life you have left. ***** However, soon the strings, along with their owners, begin to divide into two main categories – short and long. While those who received a long string rejoice, those with a short one have no reason to be happy. And as if it weren't enough that they have to deal with a cruel fate, after several violent incidents caused by the 'shorties' who couldn't handle the situation, society begins to see them as a threat.
