Nell Young's lifelong love and message are maps. Recently, however, this doctor of cartography has only been adding wear and tear to cheap reproductions of ancient maps that antique lovers hang above their mantelpieces. Seven years ago, her professional reputation was destroyed by the renowned cartographer of the famous New York Public Library, Dr. Daniel Young – her own father – over a worthless road map. After years of no contact, Dr. Young is now found dead in his study. When Nell discovers that very road map, which ruined her life, hidden in a secret compartment of his desk, she stubbornly begins to search for answers. Her investigation leads her into the shady dealings of dubious antique dealers, to secrets hidden in maps and buried in the past, and to a notorious group of collectors known as the Cartographers, who would be willing to do almost anything for what seems to be a worthless road map...
