Description
Alfred Nakache had a panic fear of water as a boy, but as an adult, he collected medals and titles in swimming. However, his story belongs to those that Emmanuel Macron referred to in his speech about great figures in French history as fragmented and dislocated. The child prodigy moves from his native Constantine to Paris after his first swimming steps, where he achieves further success. He gets married, and the future seems bright. But it is the year 1941, and Nakache, as a Jew, must move to a safer, southern part of France. In Toulouse, he is warmly welcomed, but even here, he and his wife and daughter cannot escape the clutches of the Gestapo. The family is deported to Auschwitz through the internment camp in Drancy, where they are separated... The novel adaptation of the touching story of the great Jewish swimmer Alfred Nakache is told in the realm of a happy childhood and youth in Algeria and France, and in the realm of inhumane conditions, torture, and murder in concentration camps.
