Seventeen-year-old Olive Henderson returns to Dunbridge Academy after a long stay in the hospital. Due to the burns she sustained in the school fire, she has to give up her swimming career and repeat a year. Olive feels bitterness and anger; the familiar world and her group of friends are disappearing from her sight. ***** Diabetic Colin Fantino finds himself at a Scottish boarding school against his will. Indifferent parents send him across the ocean after an incident at high school to avoid tarnishing their name. Colin initially hates the sleepy rural boarding school and plots his escape.
