Chief Commissioner Lena Lorenzen is leading an extensive search operation for a fourteen-year-old girl on the North Frisian island of Föhr. The missing Marie Logener comes from an orthodox religious family and is described by everyone as unusually mature for her age. On the second day of the search, she is found on an abandoned stretch of the local beach with severed arteries. Lena and her young colleague Johann quickly suspect that this is not a suicide. Marie's parents are very reserved and do not cooperate much, but they are not the only ones who evidently have something to hide. The commissioners gradually delve deeper into the life of the young girl and her secrets. Lena is convinced that hidden within them lies the key to solving the case. Besides the professional challenge, Lena is privately faced with a difficult decision. Will she dare to embark on a life together with Erck, her childhood boyfriend? What would moving to the island of Amrum mean for her work at the State Criminal Police? And can she forgive her father, whom she hasn't seen in fourteen years?
