Description
After hearing about the strange events that occurred in Maryland in 1949 during his studies at Georgetown University, William Peter Blatty began writing a work that later became one of the literary phenomena of the second half of the twentieth century. The novel The Exorcist, which can undoubtedly be labeled as Blatty's opus magnum, has sold over thirteen million copies in the United States alone since its first publication in 1971 and has been translated into countless languages around the world. Its success was further underscored by the warmly received Hollywood adaptation by William Friedkin, which hit theaters two years later and became one of the most famous horror films of all time. So what is the story about? We witness the strange behavior of twelve-year-old Regan, the daughter of a famous actress. Mysterious sounds echo in the house at night, furniture moves on its own... and more and more terrifying phenomena appear that no one can explain. The situation gradually worsens (the body of the girl's mother's best friend is found under her bedroom window), until finally there is only one option left – to resort to exorcism.
