Description
The book adaptation of the successful film – a gripping novel about the last ride of a rodeo star. Mike has seen better days. There was a time when no one rode better in the arena, but divorce and years of hard living have taken a toll on his body. After one accident, he must abruptly end his career, but his boss assigns him one last task: to cross the border into Mexico and kidnap the boss's son, Rafa, from his ex-wife so that the boss can gain an advantage in a protracted divorce battle. When Mike arrives at the location, he finds that the boy has already run away, and his plan is immediately uncovered by the local police. Ultimately, the cowboy finds Rafa wandering the streets of Mexico City – surviving on petty thefts and the occasional win in cockfights. Mike convinces the boy to return to Texas, and the two fugitives from the law set off on a journey north. An unlikely friendship develops between them, forcing them to reckon with the life choices made in the interest of staying 'macho.'
