Description
The novel by French writer Choderlos de Laclos, first published in 1782, gained significant attention for its open criticism of the morals and relationships of certain social classes. In nearly 200 letters, the author tells the story of two libertine nobles – the Vicomte de Valmont and the Marquise de Merteuil – whose greatest pastime is toying with the emotions of others. They shamelessly seduce and then calculatingly discard innocent victims. However, they soon find themselves caught in dangerously tight loops of their own games.
