Description
The famous drama by a classic American author draws from real events at the end of the 17th century in the American town of Salem somewhere in Massachusetts, but it also refers to Miller's contemporary era and the anti-communist witch hunts of the McCarthy era, of which the author himself was a victim. At the beginning of the story stands jealousy – the young maid Abigail seduces the married farmer John Proctor, and when she fails to maintain his affection, she unleashes a wave of mass hysteria in the parish over the presence of devilish forces. An investigating judge arrives, and the most famous witch trial of all time begins, with the number of falsely accused women reaching into the dozens, eventually even involving Proctor's wife, whom Abigail seeks to take revenge on.
