Description
Teacher Eva Vendelová is found hanged in her own hallway. Moreover, someone has nailed two thick nails into her palms. Why was a woman who has no enemies murdered, and why in such a brutal way? Shortly thereafter, a little girl with diabetes is kidnapped from the kindergarten. Relatives of both victims soon receive anonymous letters containing a biblical quote, the common theme of which is a promise of some kind of liberation. But from what did Eva Vendelová and five-year-old Ellen need to be liberated? And who is the liberator who sent the letters? Criminal inspector Idun Lindová must find out why the woman was murdered and whether the kidnapping and the murder are related. Together with a colleague from the serious crimes department, she begins to investigate a past much more complicated than it initially seemed. The investigation leads her back to the 1990s, to the dark history of the abused Viola and her two children, who sought refuge with a religious congregation in Norrbotten. Pastor Mattias Selberg and his wife Ellenor welcomed the family and offered them a new home on their farm. In Viola, a new hope for a better future awakened, but soon reality caught up with her, a reality from which she could not hide.
