Description
In Auschwitz, there was only one sound, just like in freedom. It was the roaring applause following a victorious match. In the German death camps, athletes also ended up, including legends of world boxing. Like all prisoners, they were condemned to a slow death. However, some of them managed to rediscover the spirit of sports even in such extreme conditions. Like gladiators, they stood in the camp ring to fight – even against their tormentors. For the SS men, the bloody matches were merely a distraction and a source of entertainment, but for them, it was a fight for the dignity and honor of all prisoners. True athletes, faithful to the principles of fair play, often paid the highest price for it. Their bravery and courage, however, earned respect even from the camp executioners. IT IS A STORY ABOUT HEROIC BOXERS, THE STRENGTH OF SPIRIT, AND AN EXTRAORDINARY WILL TO FIGHT AND LIVE.
