Description
Amidst the Nazi frenzy in Poland, a Jewish mother and her five-year-old daughter with exceptional musical talent hide in a place where even the slightest sound could cost them their lives. When German soldiers surround the Jews in their hometown, Róża flees with her daughter Shira. They find refuge in a barn on a neighbor's farm. Shira, hidden day and night in the hayloft, desperately tries to stay silent while music constantly pulses within her. Nature around the farm calls to her, and she can hardly resist her natural desire for freedom. In an effort to entertain and soothe her daughter, the mother tells a story about a little girl in a magical garden. The little girl must not make a sound, so a yellow bird sings. It sings whatever the little girl composes in her mind: high piccolo trills, deep bass rumblings. Music helps the flowers bloom. In this imaginary world, Róża can protect Shira from the horrors unfolding around them. However, the day will come when their refuge is no longer safe, and Róża must decide: either stay with Shira or leave her behind, giving her a chance for survival.
