Amber Gills may not care much about her studies, but after being expelled from architecture school in Toronto, her carefree life turns upside down. Her best friend Laurie Cavelle comes to study in their hometown of Vancouver under pressure from her highly successful parents. At first, the only comfort in the hostile environment is Laurie's presence and her rekindled passion for figure skating. Amber struggles not only with her pedantic father, who keeps her in check with his money and status at the university, but also with ambitious classmates. Among them stands out Laurie's roommate, the handsome go-getter Emmett Sorichetti, with whom Amber strikes a beneficial deal due to a demanding project. Emmett gradually becomes more than just a necessary ally and reveals his carefully guarded privacy to her. She also sheds her disdainful mask and realizes that prejudices don't pay off, and her casual relationship with med student Cole is slowly becoming insufficient. Can Amber break free from the role of the spoiled tough girl and overcome the long-standing trauma that has made her give up on serious relationships?
