Description
The play The Servant of Two Masters is a classic Italian work of the commedia dell'arte genre from 1745. Miss Beatrice, disguised as her deceased brother Federico, arrives in Venice with her servant Truffaldino to find her brother's escaped murderer. He later actually arrives, and Truffaldino, who has no idea who he is dealing with, enters his service out of calculation. After all, two salaries are better than one. The servant, however, is best at confusing, swapping, and entangling any task, which sets off a long chain of mistakes, misunderstandings, and comedic situations. One of the most famous portrayals of this story is the production by the Prague National Theatre with Miroslav Donutil in the lead role. (Premiere 1994.) This performance was also recorded for television broadcast.
