Delta Dawn knows everything about the lives of New York's elite. She makes a living photographing spoiled children from wealthy families. Over the years, she has learned how to transform tear-streaked faces into expressions of pure bliss in her photos and how to create fairy-tale scenes that parents long for. However, when the Straubs hire her to photograph the celebration of their eleven-year-old daughter Natalie, Delta finds it no longer enough to observe their world through the camera lens. She begins to yearn for the same elegant life that the charming Amelia and handsome Fritz have. She wants to inhabit their impressive villa and become part of their beautiful, cultured, and successful family. So the photographer devises a plan. She starts watching Natalie, befriends Amelia, and seizes every opportunity to sympathetically listen to Fritz's problems. Soon, she indulges in their luxurious bathtub, sips their expensive wine, and secretly observes the beautiful apartment the Straubs rent in the garden behind the villa. It seems that the chance to fully penetrate their splendid life is slipping away from Delta – until she begins to reshape not just the scenes in her photographs but also the reality around herself.
