When young journalist Zina mysteriously disappears while filming a report, Lieutenant David Miller, an unwilling specialist in the most boring crimes in Prague, is not exactly who the department head wants to assign to such a media-saturated case. Yet, by coincidence, it is he who encounters the Slavic demon Běs at the crime scene, who reveals hard-to-believe information: The Earth leaves imprints of all its historical epochs, and in these parallel worlds, not only mythical gods and fairies come to life, but even American spies scattering potato beetles. And the lieutenant is supposedly the chosen one who should help Běs save his Slavic world. David decides to heed the demon's call, but instead of finding himself in the time of Slavic fortresses, they both end up in 1950s Prague - a city full of grayness, conscious builders, and State Security agents.
