Description

The teenage boy Niam lives in one of the largest settlements of mammoth hunters during the last peak of the Ice Age. Together with others, he hunts, learns natural skills, and experiences 'bushcraft' in its most challenging and purest form in human history. While the tribe is fleeing from strangers, he gets lost and wanders the land alone. With the arrival of winter, he is found by his slightly older sister. However, both siblings are captured by prehistoric hunters in an unknown land. The story of the children continues, with one dramatic situation following another. The realities are supported by findings from contemporary anthropology and related sciences (paleobotany, zoology, climatology, etc.). The book, with impressive illustrations by Kateřina Coufalová, interprets the period, which was addressed by the classic of this genre, Eduard Štorch, in contemporary language and with regard to new findings. In the dynamic structure of the story, alongside authentically sounding descriptions and dramatic situations, there is also room for humorous relief. The book by author Pavel Radosta, who has written two dozen scholarly articles and several hundred popular articles mainly on topics of history, nature, anthropology, and art, brings the genre of adventure stories in a real natural environment back to Czech youth literature.
