Josef Lada: Středoevropský mistr 20. století – Pavluch Lev (2022)

Josef Lada (1887-1957) is presented here for the first time as a leading figure in Central European visual art of the 20th century, and thus one of the masters of world painting. The full-color illustrated monograph is conceptually based on the idea that purely Czech motifs, Czech landscapes, Czech traditions, and myths enhance the originality of Lada's work. In the introductory text and in ten thematic illustrated chapters, the author of the publication provides evidence of both Lada's personal affinity with many significant figures of world culture (not just artists) and the unmistakability and uniqueness of Lada's painting style. The greatness of the artist is primarily influenced by his internal approach, and the resulting harmony is evident in the works, giving them a mark of universality. In the last section of the book, for example, the phenomenon of 'Lada's winter' is placed among the most famous painterly motifs of personal characteristics - and Lada's paintings stand up fully to this competition. The groundbreaking publication, which is released in both Czech and English versions, concludes with a detailed biographical overview, tailored - like all texts in the book - for foreign readers and viewers.
