This second volume of the science-fiction saga about revenge and the struggle for freedom, in Czech, follows Darrow, a Red and a member of the lowest caste of miners and wage labourers. He has spent his youth working in a helium mine deep beneath the surface of Mars, believing that he is preparing the planet for the colonisation of a suffering humanity from Earth. His entire life, however, has been one great lie. The colour-coded Society he serves is in reality an immense hierarchy of slavery, ruled by a cruel and ruthless caste of Golds. With the help of a rebel movement, Darrow infiltrates the Institute on Mars, where the Society trains the Highest Scarred, the ruling class of Golds and the elite of the elite. During a course that is really a merciless struggle for survival against everyone, he becomes the best student and gains the patronage of House Augustus, led by Neron, the arch-governor of Mars, the man who had Darrow’s beloved wife Eo hanged. While serving the ruthless ruler of the Red Planet, Darrow plans his revenge. Over time, however, everything becomes more complicated, and in the predatory world of the Golds he finds friendship, respect and even love. He knows that a war capable of changing humanity’s fate awaits him, and that he must choose between the deeply human desire for revenge and bloody revolution, and Eo’s message of love and hope for everyone.
