Description
This Czech-language detective novel follows Carl, the former head of Department Q, who has retired to write and find himself again. He has left the police and his beloved department behind, but one day a woman contacts him with a disturbing recording, drawing him back into an investigation. He reunites with Rose and Assad, who are struggling to keep Department Q alive after Carl and Gordon’s departure and are having difficulty accepting a French colleague who hides a dark secret. The trio takes on the case as in the old days. On the recording, they hear the voice of a woman whose husband tried to murder her four years earlier. The man subsequently took his own life, and the police considered the case solved. Yet the recording also contains a third voice belonging to an unknown person, suggesting that the police made a mistake. Seriously ill, Jussi Adler-Olsen symbolically hands the series over after ten cases to his colleagues Stine Bolther and Line Holm, who continue the popular Scandinavian crime series. He had only limited involvement in the eleventh novel, but helped devise the plot.
