Who says death can't be cured?

It is the year 1887, and Anselm Godwin is studying medicine at the University of Glasgow. When he is not watching drastic surgeries or autopsies with his classmates, he spends all his time immersed in books. Originally, his older brother Ezra was supposed to become a doctor, but he tragically died a year ago. Anselm fled as far away from his grief as possible and took his brother's place. Now, however, he must return home to the Scottish Highlands and face his demons.

Ada Selwyn works as a grave digger. During the day, she runs a funeral service with her father, and at night, she supplements her income by robbing graves and selling bodies. However, her illegal activities cruelly backfire, and Ada risks losing everything.

When Anselm and Ada's paths cross, they become unexpected allies. Anselm is convinced that he can outsmart death itself and bring the deceased Ezra back to life. And Ada is the only one who can help him. Together, they embark on a journey to forgotten places in a mysterious valley, where neither medical knowledge nor faith can protect them from what should have remained buried deep.
