This Czech-language fantasy novel asks whether the gods are real or whether humanity has lived for centuries in lies and deception. A mysterious Herald lands at the Northern Point, awakening ancient paganism in the land, and the people of Meč flock to him like moths to a flame. They all advance south towards the rejected king, who is not prepared to tolerate such insolence. Beyond the Horn-Flooded Adalon, amid desolate, dark forests, the Translator is born from death. He immediately sets out to find and free his enslaved friends, but to succeed he must discover within himself an unknown measure of courage and determination. Children with strong blood are disappearing from the world, and the secret order of the sowrags is slowly dying out. Yet a suitable candidate arrives on Wanora. Before the only girl among the novices drinks the blood of the okhatats, she must undergo training that tests her physical and mental strength to the limit. Finally, there is an unconventional seafarer obsessed with a corrupt woman. Escaping the beautiful witch’s grasp seems impossible, so the time has come to break his vow, sail towards his dark love and face the greatest trial of all: the trial of human will.
