Description
This Czech-language volume presents the first collected edition of the poetry and prose of Karel Jan Čapek, a notable figure in Czech poetry of the 1990s. It opens with reprints of his two poetry books, Menuet s krejčovskou pannou (1993) and Karel je nemocný a předčítá (1997), followed by a selection of more than fifty poems published in periodicals during his lifetime or preserved among his papers. The edition also contains, for the first time in full, the extensive prose work Novelka o smrti a loutkách from the final years of Čapek’s life, of which only part has previously been published, together with three shorter prose pieces. The concluding section gathers Čapek’s occasional journalism, which he published sporadically in newspapers and magazines. A photographic supplement includes several previously unknown portraits of K. J. Čapek.
