Description
This Czech-language children’s book follows eight-year-old Ida, who no longer believes in monsters under the bed, although a thief in the cupboard might be another matter. Ida lives happily in a red house on a hill, except when her untidy five-year-old brother Oskar annoys her by forgetting his backpack everywhere, snoring and believing in monsters. This chaotic family captures the magic of everyday life, through both joyful and sad moments. The story explores the delicate boundary every child eventually crosses, when they become too old for bunk beds, cuddling with their mother and playing in a den, while still missing those things and enjoying games such as cooking pine-cone soup. New emotions also begin to emerge, including shyness, boredom and embarrassment. Children can read the book by themselves, but its journey to western Norway is best enjoyed together.
