Description
Stories of wounded human souls and the drama of blind jealousy... This year, we follow up on the earlier volume of the Czech Library, which presented the peak prose of Ivan Olbracht (1882—1952), with the publication of his equally significant early triptych On Evil Loners (1913), containing the stories 'Jozka, Forko and Pavlína', 'Žak', 'Rasík and the Dog', and the psychoanalytic novel of pathological jealousy The Darkest Prison (1915), through which Olbracht, as a young Viennese reporter and journalist, entered the broader reader consciousness. In the accompanying commentary, editor Michal Topor thoroughly documents the transformations in the reception of individual texts throughout the century and records their linguistic and stylistic adjustments.
