Description
The world of sensitive femininity at the turn of the century ***** A selection of shorter prose by Růžena Svobodová (1868-1920) will revive in the contemporary reader's consciousness the "female" creation of the fin de siècle period and show what artistic expression Czech modernism found for psychological sketches. The traditional realistic-naturalistic depiction of burdensome female fates in the early Stories of Růžena Svobodová (1896) is alternated with the impressionistic lyricism of Wasted Loves (1907), focused on the detailed capture of impressions, moods, and sensory perceptions. The comforting idyll Peaceful House (1917), dedicated to F. X. Šalda, delights with colorful descriptions of the enchanting forests of Brdy. The volume was prepared for publication by Martin Tichý and Radek Touš.
