Description
A novel about life's missteps, music, and the clash between boomers and the younger generation. ***** Johanes is nearing fifty, making a living as a cleaner of apartments and houses. He has a teenage daughter in shared custody. He also has a divorce behind him and one sexual scandal hanging over his head. Most importantly, he has three friends who share his love for heavy metal and his frustrations with the current world, which they no longer understand for various reasons. ***** Johanes's life is a routine of hard physical work and bar chatter over beer, regularly interrupted only by his daughter Zofia. The less experienced she is, the more progressive her views on her father and his generation become, especially when Johanes has no problem consuming meat and still looks at women in a somewhat politically incorrect way. The worse part is that Johanes himself is confused about who he is — is he just an ordinary guy who has somewhat failed due to a series of unfortunate circumstances, or a despicable sexual predator? And does it matter more how he himself, his daughter, or perhaps society as a whole reacts to his transgression? And how does humor, perspective — and also a rediscovered electric guitar — help him through all of this?
