Velké léto – Arenz Ewald (2024)

What has to happen for the worst summer to become the best summer? ***** It seems that sixteen-year-old Friedrich is going to fail at the end of the school year. His only chance is a retake, which means sacrificing the family vacation, sacrificing the summer. And as if that weren't enough, he learns that he has to prepare for the retake at his grandparents' house. Friedrich is horrified — his grandfather has always seemed strict and distant to him. His only comfort is his grandmother Nana. And also Beate, the girl in the green swimsuit he met at the swimming pool a few days before the holidays began. Despite the unpleasant expectations, he gets to know his grandfather in a completely new light over the following weeks, hears the story of how his grandparents met, and falls in love for the first time in his life. In short, it's almost a perfect summer, if it weren't for Friedrich's best friend Johann, who appears relaxed and confident on the surface, but hides a complicated personality beneath. ***** From the author of the successful book Old Varieties
