Description
A cult diary novel set in the Czech dissidence — also released as a limited two-volume edition ***** Czech Dream (1981) can be read as an authentic testimony to the crisis state of Czech society, distorted by totalitarian norms. Given the seriousness of the topic and Vaculík's popularity among readers, we are preparing two distribution variants of the title in the Czech Library: a traditionally structured volume (the novel Czech Dream, which includes photographs, literary-historical commentary, an editorial report, and explanations) can also be obtained in a package with a critical edition of the samizdat anthology Voices over the Manuscript of Czech Dream (1981), i.e., a collection of enthusiastic, polemical, and outraged responses from individuals mainly from the dissident environment and the author's closest circle, reacting immediately to the controversial content of Vaculík's recently completed novel. This second, response volume, also expanded with an extensive critical apparatus, is published in a limited number of 500 copies.
