Description

In order to remember, stories are told. People tell stories, among other reasons, to keep memories alive in their minds. But how do stories capturing traumatic experiences from war, totalitarian repression, or disasters like the explosion of the nuclear power plant in Chernobyl differ? Trauma is, by its nature, unspeakable, and thus literature based on post-traumatic narration becomes a rare opportunity to emotionally grasp the experienced trauma. We can also understand post-traumatic narration as a thought experiment that, through literary fiction, creates a path to the core of the traumatic experience that would otherwise remain unspeakable.
