Description
Enzo Macleod returns to solve two murders that are separated by more than half a century. In a sleepy French village, the roots of an uprooted tree reveal the remains of a man with a gunshot wound to the head. A week later, a well-known art dealer is coldly murdered in a nearby house. However, a full seventy-five years have passed between the two murders. Forensic expert Enzo Macleod is asked to examine the scene of the first murder, and before he knows it, he is also helping with the investigation of the second case. Two stories begin to unfold — one from the past, during the years of the war occupation of France, when officials of the Third Reich longed for the pinnacle of European art, the Mona Lisa. The second story takes place in the present, in the autumn of 2020, when France is grappling with the second wave of the COVID pandemic. Is it possible that the two cases are somehow related? And how far does the chain of events reach that began when the director of the national museums, Jacques Jaujard, decided to save the masterpieces from the Louvre from Nazi looting?
