Description
Stories of the executed from the era of the Red Terror. In the Brno prison on Cejl, executions took place for a relatively short time after the February coup in 1948 — for less than five years. The stories of those who ended up there with a noose around their necks are extraordinarily dramatic. The last of the executed was the brave Leopold Doležal, who first joined the anti-Nazi and later the anti-communist resistance. The book presents his amazing story, as well as the stories of nine other heroes who unnecessarily lost their lives. Among them are the indomitable fighter Petr Křivka, as well as former partisans Jaromír Vrba and the Daňek brothers. The life of the significant Wallachian entrepreneur Jan Křižan also ended at this execution site. Some of the names of the executed are more well-known, others less so, and some are almost forgotten. A comprehensive publication that would present them in a cohesive manner has, however, been lacking until now. The book, which is supplemented with many period photographs and archival materials, thus serves as a kind of repayment of a debt to them and many other unjustly condemned individuals.
