Description
The book presents unique musical and literary documents of the tradition of Czech street songs. The singing of street songs has left a strong mark in the memory of our ancestors as part of entertainment, prayer, work, dining, shared Lent and Advent evenings, pilgrimages, or weddings, but also as a heritage of values that contributed to the search for answers regarding life and death. The book brings 36 musical and literary documents of street songs, as recorded by folk singers František Lýsek and Jan Poláček in the twentieth century. They come from the documentation collections of the Brno branch of the Ethnological Institute of the Czech Academy of Sciences.
