Tyl's Dramas Newly Presented The realization of the volume of Tyl's theatrical works in the Czech Library was preceded by years of discussions about its concept. The aim was not only to select the best from the works of the renowned 19th-century playwright but also to introduce interpretations of the plays into the readers' consciousness, untainted by the distorted interpretative tradition of past years. This challenging task was ultimately undertaken by Dalibor Tureček. With regard to the genre transformations of Tyl's drama, from early pieces influenced by patriotic romanticism to the distinctly Biedermeier tone of his later works, he presents the contemporary reader with six of Tyl's plays along with an extensive accompanying commentary. The verse tragedy of high style Čestmír (1835), the play about reformation Pražský flamendr (1846), the prerealist play from contemporary life Paličova dcera (1847), the peak historical dramas with well-developed character psychology Kutnohorští havíři (1848) and Krvavé křtiny (1849), and the popular dramatic tale Strakonický dudák (1847) have been editorially processed and annotated by František Martínek.
