Description
Why is our country still not thriving? The coronavirus pandemic starkly revealed the frail body of the Czech Republic. The state is not properly able to care for its poor, sick, and vulnerable. Despite newspaper commentary, this is not a failure of one government or another, or one politician or another. The collapsing healthcare system, the malfunctioning social system, and the skewed education system are the results of their long-term sidelining, whether due to concessions to industrial and economic lobbies or pure ignorance and political convenience. What could be overlooked in times of prosperity is now loudly echoing in times of crisis: in crumbling hospitals, absurd foreclosure notices, and on shouting squares. The state in decay captures the impacts of long-term political resignation on conceptual solutions in areas that may not have immediate economic potential but fundamentally determine the shape and dignity of life in the Czech Republic. Behind abstract words like healthcare, education, care, or culture, there is always a living person and their story.
