Description
A novel in eight stories about bad decisions, misunderstandings, and hope. Zuzana goes to the sea to erase a terrifying dream. Josef decides to bet everything on one card. Jitka is ashamed of the rolls on her belly and doesn't want to compare herself to anyone. Hana finds her grandmother during a random car trip. Jarmila has resisted for years, but now she just longs to leave quietly. Pavel has found peace working in the forest and doesn't want to mess anything up. Iveta dresses the dead and hides a tattooed snake. And Libor simply takes photographs... They belong together, they are family in a way, yet they pass each other by. And injustices, blank spots, and pain multiply. Yet they would also like to believe that things will get better... The short story novel Waiting for the Trigger by Lidmila Kábrtová is a chronicle of such passing, spanning over seventy years. The book in a concentrated form explores how seemingly unimportant decisions of some affect the lives of others and how an inconspicuous event can touch someone we have no idea about. Each of the main characters in Waiting for the Trigger tells from their own perspective, each trying to give their story meaning. And although finding one often means losing another, it is never too late for reconciliation and forgiveness. At least towards oneself.
