A fifty-year-old case and the murder of a high-ranking official seem unrelated at first glance. Upon a second look, they are. Maria Justová works as a historian for the Police Museum in Copenhagen. Just as she is finishing the preparation of an exhibition on unsolved murders from the last hundred years, someone brutally kills the Secretary-General of the Red Cross. Investigators Mikael Dirk and Frederik Dahlin do not have many leads, but the case sparks a media storm and begins to attract the interest of political leaders. The management demands results, and besides the lack of clues, the investigators' work is complicated by the fact that they are each from completely different backgrounds. When Maria accidentally discovers a connection between the death of the Secretary-General and a fifty-two-year-old unsolved double murder in a Copenhagen suburb, she becomes entangled in an investigation at the highest levels, leading to one of the most disgraceful chapters in Danish history. Above all, however, she unknowingly comes into the sights of the murderer.
