Description
What did Hašek write before he met Švejk? During his lifetime, Jaroslav Hašek (1883—1923) published more than a thousand short stories and essays. However, his work has not yet been reliably mapped, as many texts have been lost and authorship of others is not fully established. Marie Havránková and Milan Jankovič focused on the humorous pieces and satires from Hašek's mature creative period and arranged a selection of stories in chronological order, demonstrating the whimsical diversity of the humorist's fiction and its period-specific sources of inspiration. This year, a revised selection of Hašek's prose works is being published again in the Czech Library, along with extensive commentary and an author bibliography.
