Mexická gotika – Moreno-Garcia Silvia (2021)

A gothic horror set in the Mexican elite. After Noemí Taboada receives a confused letter from her newly married cousin asking for help, she heads to a remote house in the Mexican countryside. She is unsure of what she will find there — her cousin's husband, a handsome Englishman, is a stranger, and Noemí knows little about him. Moreover, Noemí is a very unlikely savior: her elegant dress and red lipstick are more suited for cocktail parties than amateur sleuthing. Yet she is also tenacious, clever, and possesses an indomitable will. She is not afraid of her cousin's mysterious husband, nor his father, an old-fashioned patriarch who fascinates Noemí; and not even the house itself, which invades Noemí's dreams with visions full of blood and destruction. Her only ally in this inhospitable abode seems to be the youngest son, a shy and gentle man who appears to want to help Noemí but may also be hiding a dark family secret. For behind the walls of the house lies much that is mysterious. And Noemí, enchanted by the terrifying yet alluring world behind the walls, may soon discover that this enigmatic estate cannot be so easily abandoned.
