Description
Marxism and thinking about literature is a connection full of myths, contradictions, and dead ends, but also inspirations. This publication is the first book monograph in thirty years dealing with a topic that was until recently controversial, even demonized, but is now slowly becoming fashionable. The author provides dense characteristics of Marxist thinking about literature in several chapters, which has been influenced by foreign models as well as domestic intellectual traditions. He pays attention to the key relationships that define the space of literary Marxism — the relationship of literature to reality, society, and history. Attention is given both to the overall development of Czech Marxist thinking about literature and its broader philosophical-aesthetic contexts, as well as to the individual concepts of Bedřich Václavek, Karel Teige, Zdeněk Nejedlý, Jan Mukařovský, Vladimír Dostál, and others.
