Description
A fragile story about a woman who, along with discovering Zen temples and gardens, also finds herself. French botanist Rose arrives in Japan for the first time to learn about her father's last will, an art dealer she never met. In her father's house in Kyoto, she meets a plethora of his friends — the housekeeper Sayoko, the driver Kata, her father's older English friend Beth, and the eternally drunk potter and poet Keisuke. Above all, however, she becomes acquainted with her father's Belgian assistant Paul, who guides her through the Zen gardens and Buddhist temples according to a plan her father had drawn up. Rose gradually begins to accept the Japanese part of her identity. Thus, the journey to understand Japanese culture becomes not only a journey to understand her father's personality but primarily a journey to herself.
