Description
Gita Lauschmannová, a girl barely sixteen, survived the concentration camp and rushes back to her hometown of Puklice to embrace her loved ones after years of horror and suffering and to sleep again in her own bed. She returned to find that she has nowhere to go back to. The war is over, but the madness is not. Gita Lauschmannová, an energetic woman in the twilight of her life, harshly marked by fate. She did not let life completely sour for her. Accumulated memories come alive. Gita removes the blindfold from her eyes. Boldly, mercilessly. Time, however, grinds everyone and everything in its own way. Can justice be achieved despite this? Can punishment be exacted for barbaric acts? Can wrongs be righted? Yes and no. Each must eat their own plate clean. Above all, one must stay on the straight and narrow, not collapse, not scream. The author's second prose book is again a grotesquely dark story, a panopticon in which the reflections of the stories we live ourselves shine. Magnesia Litera for prose 2007 Usedom Literary Prize 2011 German Book Prize Georg Dehio 2012.
