Description
The monograph 'The Order of Form' analyzes a quartet of periodicals through which the Catholic intelligentsia engaged in artistic debates during the period of the First Czechoslovak Republic, capturing the development of the relationship of traditionalist authors to contemporary society. The focus is not only on aesthetic or socio-political debates but also on how the authors of these magazines dealt with the modernist emphasis on art as a specific noetic tool, which, in the post-World War I situation, takes on the commitment of a new value anchoring for humanity. Jaroslav Durych and Bedřich Fučík became the guides on this journey. Their thinking about literature and their transformation during the observed period help to thematize the differences or tensions within this group of authors. The book is also motivated by the question of structuralist analysis: To what extent is it possible to recognize the whole of which traditionalist magazines are a part and to which they refer by studying this unique phenomenon?
