My name is Saša Saveljev. I am in second grade and live with my grandparents. My mom traded me for a dwarf leech and hung me like a weight around my grandmother's neck. So I've been hanging on her since I was four. The story of eight-year-old Saša and his grandmother is often talked about as one of the funniest books ever written. Critics compare it to Forrest Gump or A Confederacy of Dunces, while the dramatic tone of some passages also recalls Charles Dickens and F. M. Dostoevsky. The success of Sanajev's work is likely due to the fresh combination of humor and dramatic events. The story is partially autobiographical; the author indeed spent part of his childhood with his grandmother and was not allowed to move in with his mother. Sanajev meticulously analyzes the personalities of each household member, describing them as he perceived them as an eight-year-old boy.
