Description
A Representative Selection from the Poetic, Prose, and Journalistic Works of Vítězslav Hálek (1835—1874) aims to summarize his most significant and still widely read works. It includes Hálek's two most famous poetry collections Evening Songs (1858) and Tales from Our Village (1874), as well as four short stories (The Musician's Liduška, 1861; The Private Tutor, 1867; At the Farm and in the Cottage, 1871; The Rum Dealer, 1873), representing the best of Hálek's early and mature prose work. The selection concludes with six excerpts from journalism, including essays and travel articles (for example, Misfortune on the Dunajec in the Tatras, Travelogue to Oupor) as well as literary pieces (among others, I Am Looking for Gogol, The Paper Society).
